The first swig of the pink potion goes to…the Acadia Axewomen soccer team.
I’m sure when they took to the field against the defending Atlantic University Sport (AUS) champion Dalhousie Tigers they knew it would be a tough game, but they couldn’t have expected to be mauled 7-0. Sure the Tigers have two time MVP Leanne Huck, and Jeanette Huck, last season’s conference rookie of the year, and they are playing a game that in Europe is referred to as football but , it still had to be gut wrenching for the Axewomen to loose by a touchdown. Nearly 30,000 people get their kicks playing soccer in NS |

To be precise 29, 500 people in Nova Scotia have played organized soccer this summer. When I heard these numbers I thought to myself that perhaps the media hype around Canada hosting the 2007 Under 20 World Cup and the inaugural season of the Toronto FC drove more people to play. However after speaking with the Chief Executive Officer of Soccer Nova Scotia, I discovered there was no massive spike in numbers this year, and the slight increase that was seen was not attributed to either occurrence.

Beckham at the MLS All-Star game? |

Major League Soccer deputy commissioner Ivan Gazidis announced Thursday that this season's All-Star Game will be held in Denver on July 19. Gazidis knew the first question would be whether Beckham was eligible to play.
Beckham agreed this month to a five-year deal with the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS. He is expected to be free of his Real Madrid contract by July 1.
"If he's available, he will be available to be selected (for the All-Star Game)," Gazidis said. "There's two commissioner's picks. I leave you to speculate whether he'll get selected."
