Pop Montreal (day 3)
Submitted by David Missio on 10.7.07 at 7:15pm.
I'm sad to say that I got really, really lost.
I meant to make my way to the artists' lounge to do a posting for "day 3" on Saturday, but the map given out by Pop Montreal is a lot like that Krusty Burgers Across America map from the Simpsons, read: really shitty. Besides which, one would thi...

I Like This, You Should Too v.1
Submitted by Trevor Murphy on 10.7.07 at 8:09am.
This week, I've got three albums rocking the discman (yes, I still use a discman).
#1 - The Hold Steady: Boys and Girls in America.
I only heard this album for the first time last week, but already I am in love. It is a refreshing take on pop-rock with its talk-it-out vocals and happy-go-luc...

Submitted by Jon Careless on 09.14.07 at 2:54pm.
Those of you who are feeling in the mood to try something new should make a date to see Switchblade Valentines this Wednesday at Gus' Pub. Their music is a combination of alternative rock and rockabilly, creating a sound the band calls "psychobilly."
After listening to their songs on myspace h...

The Tragically Hip: Live at the Metro Centre, 9.13.07
Submitted by Carsten Knox on 09.13.07 at 11:33pm.
When The Tragically Hip came out for their encore, there was no predicting what they were going to play. That’s what’s great about our journeyman rockers from Kingston, ON, they’ve been so consistent with their radio-ready hits over the years, it’s hard to know what’s going to pepper their set. M...

BA Johnston Loves To Party. He Also Likes Music.
Submitted by Jon Careless on 08.28.07 at 2:20pm.
Until today, I'd never heard of BA Johnston. Apparently, this Halifax born wild-man has been performing for years in clubs all over the Maritimes.
Johnston is a big, chubby, lovable type who, if you see him, you'll likely see the mirror image of your alcoholic father/uncle swaying drunkenly be...

Thom Swift
Into the Dirt (Festival)
It’s probably only a coincidence, but a telling one, that the artwork on the disc of Swift’s album is very similar to Dire Straits Brothers in Arms CD art, evoking the National Steel guitar.
Like Mark Knopfler or Warren Zevon towards the end of h...

Bryan Ferry's Dylanesque
Submitted by Ron Foley Macdonald on 08.20.07 at 6:53am.
Bryan Ferry’s latest album, Dylanesque (EMI), has evoked a strange sort of puzzlement from critics and music insiders as it hit the North American markets over the late spring and early summer.
An 11-song collection of Dylan covers, the CD |
