Mooseheads to host MasterCard Memorial Cup again?
If you look at the standings in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, it seems a bit premature to be discussing the chances of the Moooseheads playing in the MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament, particularly when all the talk seems to over look the current season and focus on the 2009 event. The reason people are looking a season ahead is because 2009 is the next time a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will have hosting rights to the Canadian Hockey League’s premier event, and Halifax is bidding for that honour. If successful this would give the Mooseheads an automatic berth in next years Memorial Cup, which I think is ridiculous. Sure, Halifax has proven to have a successful track record a...  Read More.

NCAA, not always the best shot at pro hockey
While Paul Kariya did make the jump from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to a productive National Hockey League career, and the number of players following that path to professional hockey success (including at the NHL level) has been on the rise in recent years, it’s not the one I would take. If I were a hockey player, or the parent of a hockey player who’s dream it is to play in the NHL, there is no doubt in my mind that if given the choice, playing major junior hockey in the Canadian Hockey League would be the way to go.

Canadian Hockey League teams like the Halifax Moose Heads play more games than NCAA teams in a season, therefore giving players more possible op...

Skates are not needed to play this ice hockey
If someone were to tell you that you could play a fast paced, hard hitting game of ice hockey, and maybe even represent your country in international competition without ever lacing up a pair of skates would you believe them? Well, I’m telling you it’s possible because I’ve played the game and watched Canadians celebrate victory at the Paralympics (the Olympic equivalent for people with physical disabilities).

I’m sure some of people out there are thinking “What is this guy talking about?” I’m talking about Sledge Hockey! This is a creative modification of ice-hockey to allow people with physical disabilities the privilege of the game. Although the sport has been in existence since 1940 ...

Should fighting be abolished - Voice your opinion!
Should fighting be abolished - Voice your opinion! OK, hockey fans. And yes, I said hockey fans only. The debate is not open to non-fans. What's your opinion about fighting in the game of hockey? Should there be stiffer penalties? Do you think they (the NHL) should get rid of fighting altogether? Or do you think it will mean an increase in cheap shots and dirty hits? There have been many ugly incidents this year, most notably the two knockout blows and a severe concussion that Todd Fedoruk suffered this season.
Should the league take into consideration the fact that the NHL will likely lose fans south of the border if fighting is gone? There are many sides to this debate - it's not just black and white. Have your say here and let's...

Lowly Leafs Get Thrased By Capitals
Lowly Leafs Get Thrased By Capitals Last Friday night was an embarrassment for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they fell handily 5 to 1 to the lowly Washington Capitals.

It was evident from the opening face-off that coach Paul Maurice had instituted a savagely effective game plan that ensured the Leafs would do everything they possibly could to lose the game.

In one particularly boneheaded instance, Leaf's goalie Andrew Raycroft cleared the puck into his own net. The move was so awkward and idiotic, one can not classify it as simply being "an accident." Rather, Andrew's moronic actions castrated both himself, as well as the fellow members of his team.

Good lord, a 5 to 1 loss to THE CAPITALS! You're team is fighting tooth ...

Canadian junior hockey team wins third straight world title in Sweden.
Canada beat the Russians 4-2 with goals from Andrew Cogliano, Bryan Little, Jonathan Toews and Brad Marchand. Head coach Craig Hartsburg said, "People back home might not understand how hard it is to win over here." Travel, different time zones, the larger international ice surface and a fraction of the home fan support are challenges the players face. This championship run is second only to 1992 to 1997, when Canada won five straight.  Read More.
